My Journey to Beijing 2007 - 8/12/07

As i mentioned earlier on the other post, i clumsily sprained my leg in the hotel which i don't really know how it happened. lol. and today's trip was supposed to be hectic as we embarked to

1. The Great Wall Of China - 万里长城

see, i was having the passion and semangat to climb the Great Wall, and tada, i landed myself a sprained leg. it was not that serious actually, but it still kinda hurts when i walk in certain angles. LOL. how clumsy i am. and seriously, the steps of the stairs are not as proper as our stairs right now. mostly are like 90 degrees, some steps are high, short, fat, low, you name it. i really really wonder how those soldiers used to climb up those steps carrying those really heavy weapons and wearing those metal armours and stuff, how did they actually survive during war. my gwad. if one actually fell down and stumbled over, it would actually affect everybody. gawd. i really really salute them, and of course to those labourers who had to build this very very great looking wall of China.

despite my sprained leg, i still climbed up the Great Wall though, together with my dad and my brother. mum decided to stay below there. lol. every flight of stairs, that long whole stretch of stairs, there's this guard tower, and it continues with another flight of stairs, if you managed to climb 3 flight of stairs, then you've really climbed the Great Wall of China. if you have the ability of course, but actually even if you step one step of the stairs, that's already counted. HAHAHAHA. XD

already halfway the flight of stairs, i was kinda panting, and my stupid leg got even worse. lol. although there was still 1/4 left to the 1st guard tower, i decided to come down anyway, couldn't take it. coming down was THE WORST PART ever, it was like SO STEEP, that it seems like you're going to fall down with every step. mygawd. and people like us wearing specs, it's quite hard to focus. lol. Beijing people used to say, "you climb up the Great Wall, but you got to crawl down the Great Wall". lol.

.this is only the starting point towards the long (x100) flight of steps.

.can you see how steep the steps are, only those who went before would understand.

.this is the other side of the Great Wall of China.

.this is actually not even the beginning of climbing the Great Wall.

.same place as the picture above.

.a closer view.

.it was freaking cold -lah. haha.

.eventhough it's difficult climbing up, still, there were so many people!. kambateh!

.this words on the cement block here was written by Mao Ze Dong, here it says, "不到长城非好汉", "if you've haven't been to the Great Wall of China, you're not a good man".

.i meant to take this picture like this. this was when i was climbing the wall.

.the scenary i took while i was climbing.

it was a really really good experienced. =) shouldn't miss this once in a lifetime chance.

2. Ming's Tomb - 十三陵

i didn't take any pictures during this visit to the Ming's Tomb, because it's actually a cemetery, a place for 13 graves of the Emperors that ruled China during the Ming Dynasty, in case something supernatural stuff happens... the whole area was freaking freaking big, i wonder why they always like to waste land like that, and waste human power, imagine how many people suffered building this type if things. haiyo. and the Emperor's coffin is buried very very very deep down the ground in this big underground building. they have to dig dig dig, how many years they gotta do to finish this big thing. my gwad.

the grave we explored is called Ding Ling - 定陵, and we had to climb down several flight of stairs to reach the underground where the Emperor and his 2 wives were buried. when they 1st discovered this underground grave, they didn't know that it was vacumn inside, meaning there was no oxygen inside that grave, this is to ensure that the things that are buried together with the royal family are preserved and would not be destroyed. therefore, when those archaeologists opened the coffin, once the silk (clothing) that the Emperor was wearing, was touched by human, it all turned into dust. *poof* just like that, gone. so it was quite a pity actually. so, they had to clone the stuff so that the generation now could actually view those things.

i really think that alot of people died together with the Emperor. you'll have to have someone to light a candle inside the grave, and once the candle light is gone, there would be no air inside, and the person would obviously die. and there would be someone to light incense and prayers for the Emperor too. sigh. so many people must be sacrificed.

As for the rest of the day, i think we went to a shopping complex and a place that sells pearls or stuff. lol. basically, when you're in Beijing, you'll visit all those historical places, and they are usually the same places, Palaces, Gardens, bla bla bla. lol.
